Questions about hypnosis...
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a natural state of focused awareness that provides you with greater access to the unlimited potential of your own mind. I will guide you into an extraordinary inner experience of total relaxation, increased mental alertness and receptivity to life enhancing suggestions that will truly change your life.
In hypnosis, your thoughts and actions are always in your control. Your senses are heightened; you hear my life-changing suggestions and remember everything that is said.
Who should perform hypnosis?
Clinical hypnosis should be conducted only by properly trained and credentialed health care professionals (e.g., licensed psychologists) who have been specifically trained in the use of hypnosis, and who are working within the limits of their professional expertise.
Can anyone be hypnotized?
Yes. Trance is a naturally occurring state. We all go through periods of natural hypnosis everyday. During clinical or self-hypnosis, different people reach different levels, but only a light to medium state is necessary for effective therapy.
Will I be asleep or unconscious during trance?
No. While you are in hypnosis you are in a state of increased awareness and alertness. You will feel very relaxed and extremely focused. It is often compared to the "hypnogogic" state we all experience when we have gone to bed and are not quite asleep yet, but are no longer really awake.
Does it really work?
Yes. According to an official statement by the American Medical Association (AMA), "Hypnosis is a valuable therapeutic adjunct, especially in the treatment of stress-related diseases…” Basic hypnosis courses are now being offered in most medical schools.
If I am hypnotized, will I remember my experience?
The average person feels, hears and remembers everything. Most hypnotherapists will tell you initially that you will remember everything that was said – and you will. As you become comfortable with hypnosis and develop your capabilities to experience deeper states, you may be able to experience amnesia if you wish- without it being suggested.
Can hypnosis be used for more than one issue at a time?
Absolutely. Your unconscious has all the resources it needs to make any changes that are beneficial and appropriate for you. Problematic behaviors or thought patterns are often linked to each other. When new options and alternatives are explored, it is not uncommon for the unconscious to offer surprising solutions to related issues.
Can I be made to do or say anything that I would not ordinarily do or say?
No one, hypnotized or not, will accept a suggestion they don’t wish to, consciously or unconsciously.
What kinds of things is hypnosis suited for?
Almost anything. Think of any area of your life that is limiting you from being the best you can be, or just something you want to improve, and chances are that hypnosis is the therapy best suited for addressing that issue - stress reduction, phobias, enhancing memory or concentration, heightening creativity, improving your sport skills, strengthening your self-esteem and increasing your confidence, controlling pain during dental procedures and childbirth, mastering public speaking, . .the list goes on and on.
